0

Mesothelioma lawsuits are complicated, involving technical information about asbestos exposure, disease development, and liability laws. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it’s important to seek legal advice from an experienced lawyer in your area as soon as possible, to protect your rights and maximize your chances of receiving compensation from the responsible parties. Find a mesothelioma lawyer in Chicago by consulting our comprehensive directory today!

The Importance of a Chicago Mesothelioma Lawyer

If you were diagnosed with mesothelioma, you might be looking for some answers about your disease and how it affects your health. You’re likely to hear many different opinions from doctors, lawyers, friends and family. But who should you trust? The most important source of information comes from an experienced mesothelioma lawyer in Chicago. A local mesothelioma attorney can answer all of your questions and help to make decisions regarding your future health.

How Will an Attorney Help?

When most people are diagnosed with cancer, their first thought is often to get an accurate diagnosis and learn about treatment options. This is obviously important for mesothelioma patients, who have a limited time-frame for recovery—which makes finding an attorney all the more crucial. The average time between initial diagnosis and death is between eight and sixteen months, meaning that each day is critical.

Are There Any Free Lawyers?

While there are exceptions, most reputable asbestos lawyers do not work on contingency, so clients will have to pay for services. However, if you cannot afford to pay for legal representation, you should still seek out an attorney and file your lawsuit even if it means filing without representation. Your lawyer will be able to advise you of your rights and suggest resources for obtaining free or low-cost legal services.

What Should I Look for When Choosing a Law Firm?

Although finding a mesothelioma lawyer is of utmost importance, you want to make sure you’re choosing one that fits your needs. Here are some things to consider when choosing

Finding the Right Attorney for Your Case

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it’s natural to feel scared and confused. There are many options available to help those suffering from cancer, but finding one that works for you can be difficult. Use these helpful tips when searching for an attorney who specializes in asbestos-related illnesses.

Does My Claim Need to be Filed Right Away?

If you think you have a case, call an asbestos attorney to see if your claim needs to be filed right away. It’s important to speak with one of these specialists as soon as possible so that you can begin receiving compensation for your injuries. The longer you wait, the more money an insurance company will be able to save. By discussing your case with an attorney today, you will protect yourself against companies trying to take advantage of your delay and get what they can while they still can.

What Other Legal Remedies Can I Pursue if I Have Been Injured by Asbestos Exposure?

Once you’ve been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may be wondering if there are any other legal options available to you. If your condition was caused by exposure to asbestos, then it is important to understand that certain legal remedies can be pursued as well. Often, personal injury attorneys will work together with mesothelioma lawyers in order to provide their clients with all of their options under personal injury and civil rights laws.

New Car Insurance Laws in Fuquay Varina

0

In recent years, car insurance laws in Fuquay Varina have changed significantly. In an effort to prevent fraud and make sure that all drivers can get the coverage they need at an affordable price, the North Carolina General Assembly has passed numerous new laws regarding auto insurance coverage in Fuquay Varina. This article will provide you with an overview of these new laws, as well as their potential implications on you as a Fuquay Varina driver and consumer.

Did you know…

In January 2014, a new set of laws went into effect that dramatically changed NC’s car insurance requirements. Most notably, these laws now require drivers to carry more car insurance coverage – including uninsured motorist coverage for those who have been injured by an uninsured driver and underinsured motorist coverage for those who have been injured by a driver with liability limits that are not sufficient to cover their injuries.

A law was passed regarding car insurance

Drivers must have proof of insurance when they are driving on public roads. The law also states that drivers must display their insurance to any officer who requests to see it at any time. Violation of these laws will result in an increased fine, and could even lead to a suspended license or revoked registration, depending on your state’s laws. Even if you have never been pulled over before, now is a good time to know what documents you should have readily available if you’re ever asked for them.

This affects you and your premiums

A new study finds that those who receive tickets when they’re behind-the-wheel end up paying more for car insurance. According to a Consumer Reports study, drivers with at least one ticket or accident on their driving record are charged, on average, 47 percent more than people with clean records. Another big factor? Your age and gender. Twenty-somethings get hit with higher rates than any other age group because they’re considered a high risk due to inexperience and poor judgment.

Here are details about new car insurance laws in Fuquay Varina

If you are an NC resident, there is something important you should know. On July 1st, 2015, new laws regarding car insurance went into effect. Since then, an estimated 250,000 people have been driving without valid car insurance coverage. If you live in Fuquay Varina or anywhere else in North Carolina for that matter, and drive a car—no matter how seldom—you must be aware of these changes. If not, you could be fined $300 to $1,000 for your first offense and as much as $1,000 to $10,000 if it is later discovered that you were driving without insurance on multiple occasions. Most importantly though: being caught with invalid auto insurance could result in suspension of your driver’s license!

Most American Express card members typically think of their Amex points as opportunities for amazing travel opportunities. While that’s true, there’s another lesser-known use for them — redeeming them for purchases at Amazon. And Amazon is back at it again with a terrific promotion where you can actually save money by using your Amex points this way.

Right now, targeted American Express card members can save as much as 50% on their next Amazon purchase, for up to $60 in savings when you use Amex points to pay for at least a portion of your purchase at checkout through Dec. 31, 2021. Other card members are getting 15% off for up to $15 in savings, or 30% off for up to $30 in savings.

Targeted American Express card members may be able to get 50% off at Amazon for up to $60 in savings, or one of several other offers.
Amazon

Targeted American Express card members may be able to get 50% off at Amazon for up to $60 in savings, or one of several other offers.

While this is a targeted offer, it appears to be fairly widely available to eligible American Express card members, although scoring the deal can be a little complicated. But we’re going to take you through it step by step to make sure you’re getting as much of a discount as possible when you’re shopping at Amazon.

To start, you must have an American Express card that earns Membership Rewards points. Amex cards that earn other types of rewards, such as cash back or airline miles, won’t work. But there are plenty of Amex cards that earn Membership Rewards points — a small sampling of them is at the end of this story.

Next, you’ll need to link your Amazon and American Express accounts. Add your American Express card as a payment method in your Amazon account, if you haven’t already. Then look for the option to enroll in “Shop with Points” under the “Your Account” tab, and click the “Enroll” button for the Amex card you just added.

You need to enroll your eligible Amex card in Amazon's
Amazon

You need to enroll your eligible Amex card in Amazon’s “Shop with Points” program.

Once your accounts are connected, you’ll need to activate the offer by clicking on this link. Remember, this is a targeted promotion, so not everyone will be eligible for it — you could be targeted for any one of the offers or none of them. When you click on the link, if you see a message that you’re not eligible, then you’re unfortunately not targeted for this particular promotion.

But even if you’re not targeted, don’t give up hope. If you just enrolled in “Shop with Points,” you may need to wait 24 hours for Amazon’s records to refresh before knowing if you’re targeted, so check back in a day or so.

If you’re eligible, activate the offer by clicking on the “Activate now” button — the enrollment page will indicate your particular discount. You can then shop at Amazon as you normally would, though only products sold and shipped by Amazon are eligible for these discounts. Additionally, Amazon gift cards are excluded, though other third-party retailer gift cards sold by Amazon are eligible.

But wait! There’s one more step. When you’re ready to check out, you’ll want to make sure to select your linked American Express card as your payment method. Then you’ll need to use at least 1 point to pay for your purchase for the discount to apply.

When paying with Amex Membership Rewards points at Amazon, 1 point equals 0.7 cents. That’s not the best value you can get for Amex points. Frequent flyer website The Points Guy values Membership Rewards points as high as 2 cents each when redeemed for travel.

However, it’s important to note that you don’t have to pay for your entire Amazon purchase with points to get these discounts. In fact, you can use just 1 point and pay for the rest with your Amex card, and you’ll still see the discount applied to your order.

To pay with the minimum number of points required, enter $0.01 in the points section at checkout, which will apply just 1 point to your payment, You can use any number of points you want, but if you don’t make this change, Amazon may automatically apply the maximum number of points to cover the entire purchase, so you’ll want to make sure to update the amount before you place the order.

You can use any number of Amex points you want to get the discount.
Amazon

You can use any number of Amex points you want to get the discount.

Once you’ve applied at least 1 point to your payment, you’ll see the discount added to your order. With this offer, the discount will apply to every order you place between now and December 31 until you hit the maximum combined savings for your particular offer.

Let’s take a look at some examples of how you can apply this discount to your upcoming Amazon purchases, even if you don’t need anything from Amazon right at the moment.

If you’re in the market for a tablet that isn’t flashy but gets the job done at a low price, we think the Fire HD 10 is one of the best budget tablets you can buy, and the retailer has a kids edition with a tough, colorful case but the same internal hardware as the main version. The Fire HD 10 Kids Edition currently prices at $119.99 before taxes and shipping, but if you apply the 50% Amex discount, that price drops to an insanely low $59.99.

Get the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition for half price if you're targeted for this Amex 50% discount at Amazon.

Or, even though these discount offers don’t apply to Amazon gift cards, they do apply to many other third-party retailer gift cards that Amazon sells. Amazon has literally hundreds of options, including retailers that might be useful right now, such as Netflix, DoorDash, Whole Foods and more.

So even if you don’t have anything to get at Amazon over the next two months, you can always buy a gift card for yourself using the discount and bank the savings for later.

Save money on your grocery bill by buying a Whole Foods gift card at Amazon with this promotion.

Plus, you can pair these promotions with many of Amazon’s early Black Friday deals or any of its other money-saving offers, like saving $20 when you spend $60 on select beauty products.

Even if you aren’t eligible for any of these particular Amex promotions, offers like this typically resurface many times throughout the year, so keep on checking back. Amazon is also currently running similar promotions for Discover credit card holders and Chase credit card holders — read our guides on each of those offers to find out how to take advantage of them.

This is definitely one of the better Amazon promotions we’ve seen, but that doesn’t mean more offers won’t pop up — especially as Black Friday and Cyber Monday come closer. So keep your credit card accounts linked to your Amazon account, and if you’re targeted for any of these offers, make sure you use them before they expire on December 31.

If you don’t currently have an eligible Amex card, here are several options you might consider:

Amex personal cards:
American Express® Gold Card
The Platinum Card® from American Express

Amex business cards:
The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express
American Express® Business Gold Card
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express

NYC Mayor-elect vows to take first paycheques in Bitcoin

[ad_1]

‘NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry,’ Eric Adams said on Twitter on Thursday.

By Bloomberg

New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams said he would take his first three paychecks in Bitcoin when he takes over City Hall in January.

“NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries,” he said on Twitter on Thursday.

Adams, a Democrat, has said he wanted to turn New York into a crypto-friendly city and that he wants to explore a NYC Coin similar to Miami’s. In an interview on Bloomberg Radio after being elected mayor on Nov. 2, he wagered a “friendly competition” with the mayor of Miami, who was the first to set up a so-called CityCoin cryptocurrency.

“He has a MiamiCoin that is doing very well — we’re going to look in the direction to carry that out,” Adams said in a Wednesday interview on Bloomberg Radio. He vowed to “look at what’s preventing the growth of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in our city.”

Old Western Fringe and Suede Get a Sexy Makeover in Balmain’s The Harder They Fall Collection

0

[ad_1]

Someone call the sheriff, because our wallets are in extreme danger thanks to Balmain’s new The Harder They Fall capsule collection. Released on Nov. 3 to coincide with the film’s Netflix debut, the Western-inspired clothing and accessory line features upscale, ready-to-wear looks designed by Olivier Rousteing, including a scarf for $195 and an eyelet-detail, long-sleeved suede shift dress clocking in at a whopping $5,650. The prices may have our bank accounts shaking, but every look has us ready to hop on a horse and ride to the nearest saloon ASAP.

Can you imagine strutting up to the bar in that terracotta biker jacket or heading to the mall with that massive fringe maxi purse? The Old West aesthetic is alive and well, and we’re here for it. Our only question: do we pair everything with heels or cowboy boots?

“Those films, with their all-white casts, ignored an incredible history, where one third of American cowboys were Black.”

Reflecting on his inspiration for the line, Olivier noted his lifelong love for Old Western films and called out the historical lack of representation in Western-inspired media. “[Western movies] focus on the same intriguing and universal messages, questions and themes that are found in the myths and stories that have been told all across the world, for thousands of years. That’s what’s behind their incredible, long-lasting power,” Olivier said. “Universal, yes, but at the same time, many of those famous movies were tragically limited by narrow-minded prejudices of the time . . . Those films, with their all-white casts, ignored an incredible history, where one third of American cowboys were Black — many of them newly freed slaves who had headed west in hopes of a better life.”

Channeling the same intensity and tenacious energy as the cast of The Harder They Fall, Olivier took his love for Western films and turned it into a collection that embodies the same power as some of the movie’s most badass characters. “I think that this capsule collection’s fringe-and-suede spirit will look just as at home when worn by Balmain Army members on the avenues of Paris as it would on Nat Love, Rufus Buck, Stagecoach Mary, and Trudy Smith in the beautiful open spaces of the American West,” he said.

Take a closer look at the limited-edition collection — including a sexy suede crop top and miniskirt set — ahead, and shop the full line on Balmain’s website, Farfetch, and the Netflix shop.

USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen agrees to new Manchester City deal through 2025

0

[ad_1]

United States men’s national team goalkeeper Zack Steffen will be staying on with the reigning Premier League champions.

Manchester City confirmed Thursday that Steffen has signed a new contract that will keep him with the club through the 2024-25 season. Financials of the agreement weren’t disclosed.

Steffen, 26, originally signed for City from Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew in the summer of 2019 and then spent the subsequent campaign on loan with German Bundesliga club Fortuna Dusseldorf. He returned to City last season and was part of the team that won the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Steffen was on the bench for the Champions League final that City lost to Chelsea.

“This is a fantastic moment for me – I am so happy to be committing my future to Manchester City,” Steffen said for the official release. “In my opinion, this is the best team in world football, with the best manager and best coaching setup. It’s a privilege to be here and contribute to this team achieving its targets.

“I feel I learn every day and I have definitely improved as a goalkeeper since coming here. I contributed to our success last season, which was an amazing experience. I want to keep pushing (City No. 1) Ederson every single day and take my chances when they arrive.”

Thus far, Steffen has earned 24 caps for the USMNT.

“He fits the blueprint of what a Manchester City goalkeeper should be,” City director of football Txiki Begiristain added in the statement. “Not only is great with his hands, but he is also calm on the ball and provides outstanding distribution, which is a vital part of our style.

“This is a man who trains to an exceptionally high standard every single day. He always wants to learn and improve. Our coaching staff love having him here and we want to see him continue his development over the next years.”

Canadian regulator ends pandemic-era restriction allowing banks, insurers to lift dividends By Reuters

By Nichola Saminather

TORONTO (Reuters) -Canadian banks and insurers can resume dividend increases, share buybacks and increase executive compensation, the country’s financial regulator said on Thursday, lifting a moratorium it has imposed on them since March 2020.

The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) said in a statement these measures were effective over the past year and a half, but they are no longer necessary or fit-for-purpose and are being unwound.

Canadian banks index has risen 83% during the 20 months the moratorium has been in place. The U.S. banks benchmark has jumped 107% during the same time.

Canadian financial firms have built up massive levels of excess capital since the restriction was implemented, and investors have grown increasingly impatient as regulators in other parts of the world, including the United States, Europe and Australia, lifted their curbs.

Canada’s six biggest lenders – Royal Bank of Canada, Toronto-Dominion Bank, Bank of Nova Scotia, Bank of Montreal, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and National Bank of Canada (OTC:) – had almost C$49 billion ($39.4 billion) in capital in excess of the minimum requirement in the quarter ended July 31.

That was after OSFI raised the minimum capital buffer to guard against risks to a record high starting Oct. 31, a step seen as a reversal of pandemic-era measures to support the resilience of financial institutions and seen as a precursor to the lifting of the restrictions on capital distribution.

Royal Bank, Bank of Montreal and National Bank shares rose about 0.4% following the announcement.

National Bank and BMO could increase dividends by the most to reach the mid-point of their targeted ranges, by 38% and 33% respectively, the analysis, based on fiscal 2022 shows.

Soleil Moon Frye had told her social media followers that she would be joining organized demonstrations for voting rights, and that’s exactly what she did on Wednesday.

The Punky Brewster star and her teenage daughters, 16-year-old Poet and 13-year-old Jagger, marched with others in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. Soleil revealed on social media that she had been arrested.

“I came to Washington DC with my incredible daughters @poet_siennarose and @jaggerblue_ with a dream to help create change,” she captioned several images from the day. “It was a deeply emotional and moving experience for us.”

Soleil mentioned that her parents were civil rights activists.

“My father was part of the March on Washington with Dr Martin Luther King Jr.,” she said of the 1963 event. “Today my children and I protested together with the awe inspiring family of Dr [sic] Martin Luther King.”

Soleil noted that her friend Ben Jealous, president of the progressive advocacy group People for the American Way, and his daughter, were also part of the group.

“My heart is full of gratitude for the DNA lines that connect us and the way we can come together to make a difference,” she said.

The day before the demonstration, Soleil had explained that she was willing to risk being put in handcuffs for the cause.

“My kids’ future means the world to me,” the actress captioned a snapshot of her with her girls.

Soleil has a tight bond with her daughters. (She and her ex-husband, Ashton Kutcher’s producing partner Jason Goldberg, share two boys as well: 7-year-old Lyric, and Story, who’s 5. The parents split in 2020 after 22 years of marriage.)

In January 2018, Jagger even told Yahoo Entertainment that she was a big fan of her mom’s ’80s show.

“I would love to become the next Punky,” she said. “That has always been my dream.”

Of course, Soleil reprised her role in the 2021 reboot, which depicted a grown-up Punky as a divorced mother raising three children.

Blue Origin loses protest of SpaceX’s $3BN moon landing contract

0

[ad_1]

‘NASA will resume work with SpaceX,’ the agency said in a statement after the United States court ruling.

By Bloomberg

SpaceX is cleared to perform a nearly $3 billion NASA contract to develop technology to land people on the moon after the U.S. Court of Federal Claims dismissed Blue Origin Federation LLC’s protest Thursday.

“NASA will resume work with SpaceX” under the contract “as soon as possible,” the agency said in a news release.

Judge Richard A. Hertling granted motions to dismiss in a one-page order of judgment. The court’s opinion is under seal, but a public version will be issued after the parties agree on redactions.

In response to the news, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted a meme saying “You have been judged!”

“Our lawsuit with the Court of Federal Claims highlighted the important safety issues with the Human Landing System procurement process that must still be addressed,” a Blue Origin spokesperson said Thursday. “Returning astronauts safely to the Moon through NASA’s public-private partnership model requires an unprejudiced procurement process alongside sound policy that incorporates redundant systems and promotes competition.”

Blue Origin claimed that NASA disregarded safety requirements in its decision to select SpaceX and failed to hold proper discussions with Blue Origin.

Going to Court

The court protest followed an unsuccessful challenge at the Government Accountability Office by Blue Origin and Dynetics Inc.

They had argued that making a single contract award was anticompetitive and risky. But the GAO said July 30 that NASA’s solicitation put bidders on notice that it could make multiple awards, a single award, or no award at all.

The GAO also rejected claims that NASA engaged in a disparate evaluation by not penalizing SpaceX’s bid for similar weaknesses identified in the protesters’ bids.

NASA didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Barnes & Thornburg LLP represented Blue Origin. Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP represented SpaceX.

The case is Blue Origin Fed. LLC v. United States, Fed. Cl., No. 21-1695C, 11/4/21.

France and the UK defuse fishing row with ‘positive’ talks

0

[ad_1]

French European Affairs Minister Clement Beaune welcomes dialogue, indicating all options are still ‘on the table’.

France and the United Kingdom have moved to defuse their dispute over fishing, with sanctions off the table for now but all options still possible should talks fail, French European Affairs Minister Clement Beaune said.

Beaune spoke on Thursday after meeting British Brexit minister David Frost in Paris after France and the UK came to the brink of a cross-Channel trade war over fishing.

At the heart of the dispute is the number of licences London allocated to French boats after the UK left the European Union. France says many are missing, while London says it is respecting the deal.

Beaune said there were still “significant differences” between the two sides but he hailed the meeting as “useful and positive”, with more talks due next week.

He also welcomed a new “state of mind”, adding that he had agreed with Frost to intensify talks on the licences.

“All options are still on the table,” Beaune said, “as long as dialogue seems possible … we are giving it a chance, with no naivety … and with a requirement to see results.”

Frost will now travel on to Brussels for talks with European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic on Friday, a UK government spokesperson added.

‘Work to do’

France had threatened to step up checks on trucks and produce from the UK and to bar British trawlers from French ports. But it pulled back on Monday to allow a fresh attempt to negotiate a solution.

France will take stock of the situation next week, Beaune said, noting “there is still a lot of work to do” and France was still missing about 200 fishing licences.

The UK echoed some of Beaune’s comments, with both sides saying the ministers would talk again early next week.

“The French government have been clear they are not looking to proceed with those threats … in the coming days,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesman said. “I think both sides are keen to have further discussions.”

The UK and France have argued for decades over the fishing grounds around their Channel coasts, an issue which also dogged years of Brexit negotiations before the UK completed its withdrawal from the EU at the end of 2020.

The latest dispute erupted in September over the number of post-Brexit fishing licences. France seized a British scallop dredger, which has since been released.

Reasserting British control over its fishing grounds was a central plank of the case for Brexit that Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented to voters. The issue is also sensitive for French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of next year’s presidential election.
